An online career questionnaire designed to help learners find their ideal career path. The questionnaire is based on Dr John L. Holland’s scientifically proven personality theory, which is the most widely used career counselling theory in the world.
Completing Career Compass will help learners choose a career that is in line with their abilities and interests. Although learners may have an idea of what they would like to do after completing school, many are still unsure, and we can help you help them!
After your learners have completed the questionnaire (which takes about 30 minutes), they will receive a career profile based on six characteristics. They must then take some time to determine whether their given profile suits them. You can help them by asking them guiding questions like whether they feel comfortable with it, or whether the suggested profile revealed something they didn’t know about themselves. They will have questions, and you will be there to answer them!
Based on their career profile, learners will also be provided with career options that will suit them best. Each career option has its own job profile description as well as information about the relative demand for this career in the South African labour market and where learners can train for this career.
Now, you need to help your learners research these career options to determine the best possible fit between their career profile and the requirements of a specific career (a click on any of the career options will provide full details on the skills required, tasks to be performed, training required, etc.). As an educator, you can help your learners determine whether these career options are right for them by helping to clarify the careers’ requirements and guiding your learners as they consider their given options.
To ensure that learners choose the career best suited to them, it is recommended that you administer the questionnaire to your learners on an annual basis, starting in Grade 8, as learners’ personalities and skills will change and develop as they get older.
The career database is updated regularly so learners can keep track of the status of their suggested careers over the five years they will take to complete the senior and FET schooling phases.
The future belongs to those who prepare for it today:
